New Finds
Newsreel of '19 World Series found buried in Canada
Call it a cinematic version of buried treasure. After spending decades trapped in the Canadian permafrost, along with thousands of feet of other footage, a newsreel clip from the 1919 World Series will be shown at the 'Rare Baseball Films' program at the Wexner Center for the Arts.
The New Henry Chadwick Archive Anncounced
John Thorn, the official Historian of MLB, announced the launch of the Henry Chadwick Archives. The material in the archive represents, items of a personal nature from the life of Henry Chadwick (1824-1908). Chadwick wrote prolifically about baseball from its earliest years in the mid 1800s.
2014 Winners of SABR Baseball Research Awards Are Announced
The 2014 SABR Baseball Research Awards, which honor outstanding research projects completed during the preceding calendar year which have significantly expanded our knowledge or understanding of baseball, have been awarded to Daniel A. Gilbert, David Vaught, Ryan Crotin, Shivam Bhan, Tom Karakolis and Dan K. Ramsey.
Two Interesting Items from REA's Spring Auction
Carlton Fisk's 1975 Game 6 World Series homerun ball and an 1875 baseball advertisement dubbed "The Mona List of Baseball Advertising Posters" hightlight Robert Edwards Auction's sprint event. Each are expected to bring over $100,000.
